art exhibition

*Dress is showing up a lot brighter in pictures-sorry*

(Pins & Needles dress-showing up brighter in pic, Kelly Framel necklace, vintage snakeskin clutch, Primark boots)

One of my friends works at a gallery and invited me along to an exhibition they were having. So i pictured a gorgeous gallery with people dressed up. I hadn't a clue what people wore and thought this outfit would be alright. Turns out the place was not what I imagined (it was a dive) and it was so freezing cold that I didn't take off my coat all night. Unfortunately it was the kind of art that I will never understand. The key 'piece' of the night was a pile of plywood...

Autumn

(H&M coat, jumper and shirt, Topshop Leigh jeans, Primark boots, vintage necklace)

Ok so I'm a little late with this as it's really winter now but this is my typical cold weather outfit. I bought this coat two years ago from H&M and I still really love it. I've always loved fur collars and I'll probably end up buying that £12 fur piece from H&M eventually!

boyfriend tee

Boyfriend's tshirt, American Apparel shirt, vintage necklace and watch

A while ago I mentioned I was starting a no shopping ban which I'm doing for clothes and cosmetics (yikes!). I'm hoping that i will rediscover things in my wardrobe that I haven't worn in ages and use up all the beauty products I have (anyone else have 5 foundations on the go?). On a day where I'm feeling particularly uninspired I find myself glancing towards my boyfriends side of the wardrobe and I particularly love this grey tee. Yes it's a bit big on me but I like that rolled up sleeves look and the material is so soft.

Does anyone else borrow their boyfriend's clothes or find themselves glancing in the mens section of stores?

Bedtime

(Images from elledecor.com and seraoflondon.com)

I've had these images saved for a while and I decided to share them with you. I love looking at interior blogs and I find these images inspiring. I would love to be able to just relax and nap in any one of those rooms! Unfortunately my room is a complete uninspiring mess at the minute (with floordrobe and all!). My goal is to make it a more beautiful, serene place and I'll post pictures if I ever achieve this (bearing in mind I live with a boy..).

Does anyone else like looking at interior design images? Just me?

Penny Lane

Just watched "Almost Famous" which is one of my favourite movies. I know everyone says this but Kate Hudson looks amazing in this movie, the costumes are just so perfect. I have a coat that I bought from a charity shop that I couldn't resist because it reminded me of THAT coat. I'll have to do an OOTD when my mum sends it over.

OOTN

H&M shirt, Urban Outfitters shorts, Vintage snakeskin clutch, Primark Ankle boots

Apologies for the terrible camera quality- it was the best I could do when I was rushing out the door. I wore this on a night out recently going for some drinks with friends. The H&M shirt is definitely one of my wardrobe staples. It is so basic but I find it looks good with everything, the fabric is light and slightly sheer and I feel it ties in well with the masculine/feminine trend.

What do you think? What are your wardrobe staples?

Leather shorts

Images via Google
I am loving leather shorts at the minute. When I told my boyfriend I wanted leather shorts he laughed and said it was something Ron Burgundy would wear. When has that ever been a problem?!

I bought a pair from Urban Outfitters online which turned into a bit of a disaster (which ended up with me ordering another pair and then decided that I could 'break in' the first pair). I wore them on a night out with a dusty pink shirt and some ankle boots a la Port (see next post OOTN).

Question is: are they suitable for day-wear? I would say HELL YEAH! I'm thinking chunky knit jumper messily tucked in and black tights and ankle boots.

What do you think? Leave your comments below.

Bad blogger

Hi so I haven't posted in absolutely ages! My life has been a bit chaotic since I've started doing my masters but I want to get back into blogging and hopefully taking lots more photos and videos.

I have a new idea for my blog. Basically I have to stop spending money on clothes/makeup/etc. So I thought I would have a really good look at my wardrobe and try to get more creative. I'm hoping I'll dig out things I haven't worn in ages and come up with new outfit ideas.

So starting now no more frivolous clothes shopping! Obviously I will need to sometimes buy a few bits and pieces- underwear, tights, etc. I am also going to have a charity shop loophole of some sort where I can buy something if it's super cheap and I love it.

Wish me luck! Outfit posts coming soon...

Photo Diary

I went back home to Northern Ireland for a few days to catch up with my family and friends before my masters begins. It was so lovely being home, relaxing and having delicious meals cooked for me (thanks mum!). I wish I'd taken more photographs, especially since my dad and I went for a walk around a beautiful lake (terrible blogger). I came back to Glasgow with a nice little haul actually- a sheepskin coat my mum bought me from Oxfam (£12.99!), old records that belonged to my dad and lots of other second-hand goodies. I think I'll do a charity shop post next.

My mum and I took a trip to Belfast but I only bought an over-sized cardigan from Primark, shopping in my hometown charity shops was much more successful! I also went to the cinema with my best friend and we saw 'Friends with Benefits', which was actually really good. It was mainly shot in New York which made me want to go back there even more.

The last photo was my perfect Friday night in- cup of tea, chocolate hobnobs and the Rachel Zoe Project. Major.

Things I'm currently doing...

Today has been totally gloomy and horrible (there's apparently some kind of hurricane left-overs in Scotland). So I decided to mention some of the things that are making me happy.

1. Watching BINTM and new YouTube videos (the hilarious Essiebutton is today's favourite).

2. Making soups to warm me up (such as chilli chicken ramen..mm).

3. New flowers in my flat :)

4. Booking flights to go home!

5. Ordering domino's with my byf..nommm

OOTD

(Topshop jumper, Topshop Leigh jeans)

Wore this the other day- nothing too exciting I'm afraid! Was just popping into town to get some new pjs from Primark (rock n roll). The jeans are brand spanking new (c/o my lovely boyfriend) and they are SUPER tight. Like can-barely-bend-the-knee tight. Which will break in and I prefer them pretty skin tight anyway (nothing worse than baggy skinny jeans..yeesh).Of course in true Glasgow fashion it started to rain just as I was about to head out the door so threw on my Barbour jacket. Apologies for my awkward posing I really should watch more Britain's Next Top Model!

Konjac Sponge

After hearing about Konjac sponges from Ruth Crilly (www.amodelrecommends.com) I decided to order one when Zuneta had a free delivery offer. I ordered the French Pink Clay one for tired and devitalised skin. Konjac sponge is made from a type of potato from Korea, which sounds really odd but there's nothing potato-like about it really. The type of potato that it is made from is naturally full of vitamins and minerals (vitamin A, E, D, C and zinc to name just a few).  It also claims to be perfect for cleansing and removing make-up on its own and suitable for sensitive skin.

So what do I think about it?
I really enjoy using this sponge in the shower to cleanse my face. At the beginning I used it on it's own but now I keep reaching for my Avene cleaner  to use with it. I find that I only need a teeny tiny amount though because it foams up really well. It is also really lovely and gentle and my skin looks really fresh afterwards. I had been suffering from breakouts before but since I've used this my skin has really improved.

Anyone else tried it yet?

You can buy Konjac Sponges here: http://www.zuneta.com/shop-by-brand/konjac-sponge.html/

OOTD

(H&M top, H&M bodycon skirt, Minnetonka boots, vintage necklace)

I wore this yesterday because it was really nice and sunny. Of course I do live in Glasgow so it was completed with cardigan and denim jacket (I'm realistic about Scottish weather). Went to meet my friend for a coffee and catch up and ended up buying that Clarins moisturiser..whoops.. Sorry it's another basic OOTD!

OOTD

(H&M demin jacket, vintage shirt, H&M bodycon skirt, vintage Rotary watch)

I love this jacket, even though its quite small. I got it when H&M were doing some amazing deal on jackets so it was really cheap and I love busting it out during the summer. Just went to my friends flat last night for some fajitas and gossip so I just wanted something simple. The shirt is pretty big so I cut off the sleeves to make it more wearable and I really like the collar (which is hard to see in this picture). All my pictures are going to be taken on an iPhone unfortunately but I think you get the basic idea.

In & Out

In:
  • Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Technically its 'out' now because it's over but I managed to finally go last Saturday with my brother and check out lots of free acts. Including a burlesque Inspector Gadget (oh-er).
  • Autumn. I think we have skipped September and gone straight into October in Glasgow..brr.. I do like Autumn though in terms of fashion. I'll take Louis Vuitton dominatrix over flowerly boho maxi crap any day!
  • Reading One Day and I love it. Recommend any similar books below please :)
Out:
  • Junk food. Got to start eating healthy. Want to make Green monster smoothie (http://greenmonstermovement.com).
  • Harem pants. I've been wearing them around the house now for days. Today is the last day, otherwise it won't be long till I'm heading down the shops in my pjs and dressing gown..

Clinique and Clarins

I'm going to start this post by firstly explaining my current situation. I've just graduated and am now currently unemployed (like about 5 million other graduates). People always joke that students are skint and have to eat beans etc. Looking back student life was pretty sweet- nice little student loan payments and discounts everywhere. So now I am being more careful with my money and when I see any freebies in magazines I practically cry with joy (perhaps slight exaggeration there..). Boots sent me a nice little card to bring into Clinique for a 5-day supply of foundation so I brought that into town with me today. The lady at the counter (what is the official name?) was really nice and took one look at my skin and recommended the 'Anti-blemish' foundation (more on my awful skin later). I used to use Clinique all the time and went completely off it when I realised how harsh it is, especially the 3-step plan (I'm sure you can take nail polish off with the toner). But I'll try it out and do a review.

I also got a Clarins card free with Glamour magazine that gives you a sample of their Instant Definition Mascara. While I was there the lady at the counter (again.. what is the right name?) gave me a consultation and was recommending the 'Daily Energizer' range. Obviously I wasn't going to just buy everything and she gave me samples so I may think about it (waiting for the job again). So I'll try the 5ml Daily Energizer Lotion and the Cream-Gel and write a review later. The products do smell amazing and we'll see if it lives up to the description- 'Hydration, freshness, healthy glow'.

We live in hard times where unemployment is high and I am trying to budget wisely. So a generous foundation sample, mascara and two moisturisers for free will do nicely :)

If I had money...

I would buy this NOW.

I have become completely obsessed with Miss Dior Cherie, after my sister let me use it for her wedding (which was the most amazing, magical day ever by the way). It smells so fresh and delicious, I shall beg the boyf to buy it for our anniversary. I will have to hold out till Oct, or get a job... which I am working on...

If you had money to splurge in Boots what would you buy?

Crabtree & Evelyn hand therapy

This was my freebie for spending £30, a 50g hand cream. I wouldn't normally buy anything from Crabtree and Evelyn (bit of an old lady/posh brand), but this is really nice. Smells really nice and works a treat! Also really like the old fashioned tube. That's the last Crabtree and Evelyn product- I swear!

Crabtree & Evelyn lip butter

Popped into Crabtree and Evelyn a few days ago to get my mum a birthday present. They had an offer on to get a freebie when you spent £30 so I just quickly grabbed this lip butter without much thought. I've always been a sucker for lip products (currently have about ten thousand lying at the bottom of my handbag) but I must say this one is really lovely.

It feels very nourishing on your lips, leaves a gorgeous shine and tastes really nice (I decided on the citron creme and honey formula). I think it's going to be my favourite when it comes to dry winter lips.

Bonjour!

Welcome to jumpers & jam! A blog which will be selfishly filled with all the things I like- fashion, food and beauty reviews. That's a picture of me in Berlin last summer (before I accidentally crashed into my sister..).

Any comments would be appreciated :)
